Your heart is set on planning a vacation to the Abacos Islands in the Bahamas - get ready for a memorable adventure! If you've been following along, you'll remember we took our honeymoon to the islands back in mid-June 2017, but if you didn't catch it, read about our stay here.
None of our family or friends had visited before so we had to do some research to find out what would be best to bring and what we should buy once we arrived. We watched YouTube videos, read various blogs and also got great advice from the owner of Serenity Cottage where we stayed.
The packing list below is based on staying at the cottage, so if you choose to stay somewhere else, review what your accommodation provides and the activities you want to do in advance. Set a budget for how much you want to spend on your trip, plane tickets and accommodation included, so you can plan accordingly. We were able to keep costs below $3,800 for everything (it's possible)!
FOR THE PLANE RIDE
Backpack for carry-on
Small hard shell carry-on suitcase (fit a days worth of clothes and essentials inside it in case your checked baggage gets lost)
TSA approved locks
Mophie power reserve pack
Camera or GoPro
Empty reusable water bottle
Small durable purse (ladies, not your normal large one)
FOR THE COTTAGE
Any of your toiletry bag essentials
Breading for cooking conch
Mini chip bag clips
Hair drier (if you have a favorite)
Your favorite bottle of wine
FOR THE BEACH
Plastic bucket for beach combing
Various sized FedEx boxes for wrapping beach treasures you find. Either ship them back home or carry them back on the plane like we did.
Water shoes with thick soles (for your safety we don't recommend flimsy flip flops)
Fly fishing rod
FOR RIDES AROUND TOWN & SIGHTSEEING
Phone mount for car
Adapter plug for phone charger
UV protection long sleeve shirts
If you choose to stay at Serenity Cottage after seeing how much you don't need to pack or spend money on, we'd have to agree you're making a great choice! The cottage will have many necessities already on hand like:
Dish soap and sponges
Bath towels, facial washcloths, beach towels, kitchen towel
Plates and bowls
Cooking pots and pans
First aid kit
Plastic bags, cling wrap, aluminum foil
Toaster, coffee maker, grill, microwave
